Parents have asked us why homework takes their child 2, 3 and even several times longer than their particular peers and what they are able to do about it. This article defines your 3 key issues and what parents are able to do about it. Student’s key issues often include:

When a student has trouble focus in class, they often must be re-taught the information at home. What makes matters worse is how the students homework time which will have taken 45 minutes gets stretched to at least one and ½ hours as a result of re-teaching, and then to over 2 hours because they cannot stay focused.

Vision issues impact their homework in many ways:
1- They have trouble copying the notes journey board correctly and you spend time trying to fully grasp the assignment
2- They skip words or lines when examining, further complicating life
3- When they do math problems they can't often align their work correctly, they miss minus and division signs so they really make careless errors

Students often get stressed when doing homework as well as battles often follow. What often happens can be:
- Students are too intimidated to ask questions in class and so they simply get stuck
- The student or perhaps parent gets angry and then …
- An argument starts which will escalates into a fight royale

What we recommend will be that parents:
- Stay clam when doing homework together with your child
- If your little one gets stressed, give them a 1 or maybe 3 minute break
- Hydrate them before doing homework buying enough doing homework
- When reading, use an index credit card or their finger to hold them on the correct line
- If the attention can be a significant issue, consider getting an ADHD diagnosis - if they have a learning incapacity or attention issues appreciably impact their academic overall performance, the student could be eligible for a an Individualized Education Plan and they could get accommodations for homework that might include:

o Getting copies of notes - either provided by the teacher or by means of another student
o Seating by the teacher to boost attention
o Having the teacher check to make sure the student has created the assignment correctly
o Having you sign that they can completed the assignment and putting it in a very place they can find it
o An early alert system, where the teacher alerts you to definitely issues early on
- If vision is a major issue see an optometrist - whether or not your child has 20/20 eyesight

I’ve spent years learning and growing and trying to figure out just exactly what the difference is between achievers: i.e. those that ‘do’, and those that ‘don’t’.

I have learnt that successful people have patterns - these are the key to what makes people succeed or fail.

And I know that success is no accident.

There are certain steps and pathways to excellence which has to be termed the science of achievement.  I will be sharing these steps with you starting with the first one ‘Teach Them To Know What They Want In Life’ below.

Even with a privileged start in life, children with the ‘perfect’ background don’t always achieve… they may have been given the money, access to mentors and the many other so called advantages, but simply lacked the motivation to make it work for them.

We are not born with the qualities to succeed BUT the great news is they can be taught.

Qualities like:-

• Motivation
• Self Discipline

Think of academic education as the ‘food’ and think of personal development as the ‘knife and fork’; without being able to use a knife and fork well, we wouldn’t be able to get the academic results in life.

So investing in your kids self improvement specifically for your child’s personal development will arm them with the skills required to succeed both at school and in life and lead to a more successful and fulfilling journey. For example if your child is intelligent but lacks the focus to follow through, it’s obviously going to let them down.

Teach Them To Know What They Want In Life

If you are already wondering where to start, you must begin by knowing what it is that you are after; which direction you are going in.

To help you and your child to identify the personal goals and increase your childs self esteem goals to aim for, focus on asking this: ‘What is important to you?’, ‘What do you want to do?’, ‘What do you want to achieve?’?  Because to be successful you must learn to know where it is you want to go in life!

For example, imagine going on a holiday without knowing where you are going.  If you have your bags packed ready for some sun but end up in Iceland, you wouldn’t be too happy.  So be aware that if you don’t know where you are going you could end up somewhere you don’t want to be!

Perhaps your child could log their goals in a way that inspires them, maybe using pictures or photos.  And remember goals are simply dreams written down.

You know when you ask your child to go and brush their teeth and en route they manage to meander through any distraction possible, when all you want them to do is:-

1.    Go directly to the bathroom
2.    Get their toothbrush
3.    Brush their teeth!

In your mind it’s a simple (and necessary) task, but how often do you have to remind them, or hurry them along?!

And, if we left it up to them, would they get there at all!

The key difference in the parent /child thought process is that you have a clear expectation of what needs to be done, a timeframe and an outcome – in effect, a vision of them completing the task.  
Your child however, is more likely to be tuned in to their toys, games and the other many wonderful distractions available to our children these days, than the job in hand.   I developed my new website with this in mind.

Toddlers are interested in the world around them. They are inquisitive and eager to learn. Teaching a toddler something new is not always easy however because their  attention spans are short and not all of them are ready for a 'lesson' just yet.If you plan teach your toddler all about the different colors, here is a great way to start.

The first activity  you do together should be very simple and basic.Find some crayons and either a coloring book or some plain white paper. Start with the  primary colors: red, yellow and blue.

Show your toddler each colored crayon and say the color to him, then together. If he does not want to say the color's name - that's okay - he is still learning by looking at the color and listening to you.

Choose a picture to color together.  Little boys enjoy coloring pictures of cars and trucks while little girls usually enjoy coloring images from fairy tales and princesses  -  at sites like Barbie Coloring Pages you’ll find the best Barbie coloring book

If you are using blank, white paper, let your toddler choose something that the two of you can draw and color together. Now it's time to color!

As he colors, tell him what color he is using. Then try to say the color together. Do not insist that s/he tell you the color. This activity should be FUN for your child - not a military drill! Make sure to compliment his coloring by saying things like, "What a pretty red flower!" or "I love the way you colored the blue car."

After you have colored together, make sure to put his picture on display somewhere prominent where visitors to your home can comment on it.This will give your child confidence and boost his or her self esteem - which is great for you because s/he will want to color and draw with you again - and you will have yet another opportunity to talk about colors together.

Once your toddler has mastered the basic red, ble and yellow - you can move on to other colors - don't overwhelm him/her with the rainbow just yet!

Remember that crayons are a choking hazard - always supervise your child while he draws and colors.

There are many reasons why children can start to have nightmares. I have two children, both of whom at various stages of their lives wake up crying and upset.

My young son started to have nightmares after watching the film Lord Of The Rings. He really enjoyed watching the film and wanted to watch it on a regular basis and would even re-inact the battles. The film itself is quite long and he would normally be watching it by himself as his mother and I would be busy doing other things.

I thought about why he may have started to have these type of dreams and believed it was due to this film. I decided to make the time and watched the film with my son. Whenever a person was killed I re-assured him that the people were only acting and had not really died in real life etc. I even made a point of laughing at some of the more gruesome scenes and by making comments like, as if that would ever happen.

Children who stress

My daughter at one point started to stress because she was not in any of the top groups in the different subjects she was taking at school. She felt like she was a failure and that we would not be proud of her. I advised her that we knew she was giving it her all at school and that as long as she continued to try her best that we would always be proud of her. But it is a bit like where I work at a company selling composite doors, we can not all be the chairman To put it in rather simple terms not every person can find themselves in the top set.

She did have a real issue to stress about - stuttering. For whatever reason she developed the speech impediment when she was a young child and as you may well imagine it had a negative affect on her self-esteem. I searched high and low for ways to help her to stop stuttering and I am pleased to report that she has now managed to achieve fluency. She is now working as business cost reduction specialist.

I am confident that with the right motivation that other people will also be able to learn how to achieve fluency.

 

Kids learn to imitate at a very young age.  It's how they learn to behave, look after themselves, develop new skills, and communicate with others. From their earliest moments they watch you closely and pattern their own behavior and beliefs when yours. Your examples become permanent images, which can form their attitudes and actions for the remainder of their life.
It is vital to be responsible, consistent and loving with your child.  This conjointly holds true for the relationship you have got along with your spouse, your folks, and alternative relations and friends that are a part of your child's life.  Come clean with mistakes when you create them, and communicate open and honestly with all family members.
